Energy SOC Core Service

The "Energy Security Operations Center Core Service" (E-SOC) is a sectoral cybersecurity entity for the Austrian Energy Industry. The E-SOC enables industry-wide information exchange and collaboration in the areas of cybersecurity incidents, threat intelligence, and defensive measures against digital threat actors. The E-SOC is an important functional component for increasing the resilience of the energy industry against sophisticated cyber attacks.

The main tasks of the E-SOC include providing an ongoing operational cyber situation report on the Austrian energy industry, actively collecting and sharing targeted threat intelligence with a particular focus on the tactical and operational levels, and developing defense and detection measures for industry-relevant attacks or attempted attacks. Furthermore, the E-SOC acts as a hub for direct technical exchange between the subject matter experts of the different participating companies along with the E-SOC experts for the ongoing work on defense and detection measures. The research coordinated and conducted by the E-SOC on new, effective methods of detecting malicious activities, the creation of detection rules based on this research, and the central provision of these rules enable a sustainable increase in the resilience of the energy sector and, in particular, its critical facilities.

The E-SOC has been in the development phase since January 2025 and will go live in 2026.
